Alejandro Gutierrez

Arup
Alejandro Gutierrez is an Associate Director at Arup Urban Design and is currently design leader of four major city expansion projects in China, one Zero Carbon strategy for a Danish region, one regeneration project in London and one regional framework in the UK.
He was also the design leader for Dongtan, an 84-km2 new Eco City in the Shanghai Region. He joined Arup in 2002 and has worked in large scale urban projects in the UK and internationally, such as Stratford, Battersea Power Station, Wembley Transport Link and Wembley Industrial Estates. He also is an invited lecturer to UCL Bartlett School of Architecture, London School of Economics, Universidad Iberoamericana – Mexico – Universidad Catolica in Chile, Architectural Foundation – UK, RIBA - UK, Cities Action Summit and Globe 2006 in Vancouver, Canada. He has also done several interviews for The Guardian, Le Monde, The Independent, Wired Magazine, RAI, BBC1 television and BBC radio 4 regarding sustainable urban development in the context of China and developing countries.
Prior to joining Arup he was director for Cities Consultancy Unit
at Catholic University in Santiago, Chile and also director for
Cities and Environment area at the Architecture School in the same
university. There he was Advisor to Minister of Housing and Urbanism
on specific urban projects.
